Happy Lunar New Year

We wish you all a very happy and prosperous Lunar New Year! The first day of the new year of the Earth Ox falls on Monday, January 26, the same day when some of the Indonesian people can observe annular solar eclipse, i.e. the moon will be right in front of the sun but it won't cover the sun completely. A ring of fire will appear.



The Chinese pronunciation of the "ox", i.e. niu, happens to be the same with the English pronunciation of "new". At the time this post is written, a Google search with key words "Happy Niu Year" brings about 685,000 results.

The year of rat has ended, leaving behind it disasters and wars that caused deaths and severe human sufferings, and a start of a global economic meltdown. Many Chinese believe that good things will come after bad ones, and ox symbolizes prosperity through fortitude and hard work.

Interestingly, US President Barrack Obama is one of the persons who was born under the sign of ox, that according to Chinese horoscope oxen are excellent organizers, patience, systematic in their approach, not easily influenced by other's ideas, loyal, entirely dependable, and devoted parents.
