Roland Tchakounte@JakJazz

Even though I sometimes felt stupid going around with my camera and the heavy lenses in a concert or a festival such as JakJazz, but I still love doing it, part of it is because of a chronic hobby and there's a little hope that those in the pictures would probably love it when they found their faces in my blog. At one occasion, a person asked me whether I was a journalist, and I just grinned and whispered to myself, yes I'm journalist of a blog.

There I was, walking from side to side, shooting my camera to Roland Tchakounte and his friends on the Orion stage on Saturday night, while listening to his Afro blues rock music. A few minutes earlier, I could already hear the blues rythm was played when I was approaching the place, after leaving Boi Akih show at the Concert Hall.

Roland was born in Cameroon, and started his musical career by recording 2 LPs in Douala’s studios before leaving for France. It took him a few years before recording his first European album, titled “ ‘Bred Bouh Shuga Blues”, a musical collaboration in which he was singing in Bamiléké, his native tongue.

Along with Mathias Bernheim (percussion) and Mick Ravassat (guitar), Roland has travelled throughout Europe, USA, Japan, Canada, Africa and Asia, including Indonesia and Vietnam.
